Halloween’s a Hoot (part 1)

halloween is a hoot copy

I pretty much abused that phrase, “Halloween’s a hoot!” all night long. Along with “don’t ruffle my feathers,” I managed to dork myself out to the nth degree and coax a few chuckles out of my fellow party goers.

I think he’s the cutest! He decided to stand on the fireplace for that one picture (ha!) and Penny Lane can hardly stand being away from Matt whenever he’s home so that's why she's there...

So I was an owl. And a winking one at that ; )

I didn’t really want to wear a mask all night, so I made mine masquerade style on a stick. It’s literally been about 10 years since I’ve last wielded a glue gun and I now have the burn blisters to show for it. Making your own costume is a bit time consuming you guys… I was so unprepared! I pretty much lost my life to making my costume last Wednesday. Luckily Matt helped me with my production system – make a feather template on cardboard, trace all feathers out on felt with chalk, cut feathers out, then glue all feathers onto dress. If he hadn’t suggested an organized system for me, I probably would’ve wasted time doing something stupid like cutting out each feather one by one.

Here’s some detail pictures of my costume, taken after the party of course. Taking detail pictures beforehand would make too much sense! Now you can see the wear and tear in detail:

p.s. my inspiration for my owl outfit came from here, here, here, and here

p.p.s. my owl dress is actually last year’s flapper dress repurposed, the gold sequins lining the neck were already there! Win! How resourceful am I?

p.p.p.s.  a small group of us met before the party to have dinner and a complete stranger came up to me and asked if she could take my picture with her camera phone.  I got super embarrased, but kind of flattered too!  Someone appreciated my hand crafted costume. You know I hid my face with my mask for the stranger's picture.
