Another Birthday

We like to celebrate birthdays around here.  Mine is coming up this very weekend.  Originally I was scheduled to work, but I managed to get things switched so that I could have my actual birthday off.  We don't have any huge plans.  Dinner with my mister is on the books, of course.  And I always look forward to dates with my man.
Anyhow, just for the fun of being a bit self indulgent, I made up a quick birthday wish list, just like  last year:

2011 bday wish list

1. Installation of a direct IPod connection in my car stereo - none of this adapter business that require a designated radio station that inevitably ends up with poor sound quality and lots of static
(Yes, my car is sadly behind the times!)

2.  A Kindle, in white please.  We've discussed the e-reader business before and like most of you, I love to hold a real book.  But the Kindle will come in handy on vacations (download multiple books without having to lug around an actual book(s) while traveling) and my library is now participating in e-book lending!

3.  A sewing machine.  This is a new hobby that I'd love to get into.  I see myself making pillow covers, curtains, table runners, a new cozy for my my new kindle... the possibilities are endless!  Any seamstresses out there with recommendations on a good sewing machine for a beginner?

4. Pottery Barn's Emmet Jewelery Chest

5.  Diamond Studs - because I'll obviously need some new baubles to put in my new jewelery chest, right?  Right?!

Oh Birthday d r e a m s... aren't they fun?

Do you always celebrate your birthday with a bang, or prefer no such attention?

  3. Happy birthday to you! Hope you have such a fun weekend celebrating!

I have the Brother 25-Stitch Free Arm Sewing Machine. It's pretty reasonable, and I find it (mostly) easy to use!

  4. Happy Birthday!

We will have to raise up a cup for you in the back yard Saturday (gonna fry up some lumpia and make some music with some friends this weekend...)

I have that iPod adapter too - 3 stations and none are really good. My CD changer is on the fritz so my options are narrowed down adapter, radio or cassette (yes!). I went old school this morning and listened to George Michael on cassette. ;.)

W.r.t. birthdays and attention, it depends. With the big ones, big parties so we can meet them head on. With my last 2, not so much. Mont always seems to be in order though. Have a great birthday!

  5. I have a Brother sewing machine as well and it is AMAZING. Oh, and we have one of those iPod connector things and they are AWESOME! It's so fun to make playlists for road trips. I highly recommend it!

I hope you have an amazing birthday!

  6. Happy (early) Birthday!

I bought the Janome Mini last year and have really enjoyed it for beginner sewing projects. Downside: no zipper foot (so no projects with zipers) and no light. Upside: it's cheap! I'm one to have a lot of interests that eventually fall to the wayside after the new wears off, so I didn't want to invest too much into a machine.

  7. I have to second what Kendra said about the mini. I got two mini machines about 10 years ago when me and my SIL were going to get into sewing. I have no idea where mine is now but I do know it's not in my basement. I gave an old vintage sewing machine to my MIL and I think I gave that cute mini machine to Scott's aunt. I do hand sew from time to time and love the idea of making pet beds and pillow covers but at the cost of the mini, I could be okay when my interest waned. Plus those machines are close enough for use when I make that t-shirt quilt (pieces ARE in the basement).

  10. Check the Brother's machines. They're really EASY to use for beginners, and once you sew the first thing... then you're hooked!
    :)

    Happy Birthday!
